When I think of the lyric "sugar and spice" it makes me think of our two cats Willie and Johnny, who are as different as night and day. Willie is our little sugar: a lover, always wanting to be petted; always the first one to hop in bed for a snuggle. Johnny, on the other hand, is our spice! He is such a comedian. He loves to play, and loves to race us down the stairs. The two of them are the most awesome pair! They bring such joy to our lives!

When I saw this song, I knew that I had to scrap a photo of my dad. It was his favorite song . . .I remember him singing "I feel good!" and dancing to this all the time.
Doesn't it look like he is doing just that here?

tip: don't delete the goofy iPhone photos your child takes of you. My daughter likes to pretend to be me and take pictures, and she likes to tell me what faces to make...these went perfectly with this song, showing all the different feelings...it was "good."

I immediately thought of my decision to go to nursing school when I heard this song! The picture is of me in college - my first day in my nursing student uniform. I was so proud!

I had so many ideas come to mind, but when I really looked over the lyrics, "quit stressing" was just right for me...needing to slow down, and being mindful of the present...we need to take care of ourselves, so we can take care of others.

The lyrics "Day by Day" and "as I get older" really popped out at me. I thought of these pictures of me as an 18 month old, picking dandelions with my grandpa...who has now been gone for 28 years. I am so grateful the love he and the others in my life have given me. I may get older, but the people that I love make each day beautiful.

I love the line in the song that says "It's like a work of art that never gets to see the light." It makes me think of so many women I've known (including me in the past) who can't see their own beauty because of someone pushing them down. That inspired me to make this art journal page to celebrate the beauty that is in all of us!!!

Giovanni's in Morro Bay, CA has the shells of a giant clam mounted outside their restaurant,

setting up a perfect "Kodak moment" for a"practically perfect" person,

my friend Als!!!

(p.s. They have the freshest oysters on the half shell, too!!!)

I was fortunate to just recently get these photos of my brother and sisters from visiting my Aunt. None of us had ever seen these photo of the four us before. Reflecting on our family life and so much we have all been through made me select the words "not perfect" from this week's song.

I used the lyric "who says your not beautiful?" from this week's song, "Who Says," because I want my daughters to know that they are ALWAYS beautiful in every single way! (as we all are!!)

I've been thinking alot about STM lately, and how much it means to me. It seemed like the perfect time to say so in a layout!

Though I love music and art, reading and traveling, a very small village in Ontario, autumn and polar bears and so much more, the important thing in my life is my family ! That's why I made this layout.

Hi everyone! It's hard to believe December is here already, isn't it? It's amazing how fast the time flies!

We won't be having a challenge during this busy month; but we want to let you know that starting in January....

We will be going back to the way it was in the very beginning of STM history -

WEEKLY CHALLENGES!!!

We are very excited about this, as it gives us - AND YOU - more opportunities to share the experience of using music as inspiration for creating!

We know that alot of you have said that you like having the whole weekend to create your layouts, so the deadline for submissions will be Sunday nights at midnight STM time (see the clock in the sidebar). A new song and challenge will go up every Monday evening. You can look for it around 9:00 pm.

We hope you are as excited about this as we are!

I'm So Excited to be Back with all of you...

Hi everyone! Michelle Rydell here, and I am soooooooo EXCITED to share with you - that I'm coming back to lead the Scrapping The Music challenge blog again!

I am absolutely GIDDY about it!!! Back in June, I stepped down from the Scrapping the Music team, and I had such mixed emotions about it. You can see my post about it here on my personal blog, and here on the STM blog. I hated to do it, but felt I had to with what was going on in my life at the time.

Well, I sure have missed it. I have missed the inspiration of working with the wonderful women artists on the design team; I've missed the music, and I've missed being inspired by the beautiful artwork we get from all of you!!! STM is a part of my heart, and I'm so glad to be back!

New challenges will start again in January, but in the meantime, look for update posts from us. The design team and I have been brainstorming some changes that we think you will like, and we will keep you updated on our progress. We can't wait to get the new year going!

STM is going to be more fun than ever!!! Yeayyyyyyyy!!!! We hope you will want to join in on the party!!!

Before we head on to our next challenge I want to take a minute to let you know that this will be my last challenge as the leader of Scrapping The Music. My life has had some changes this year and it's time for me to cut back on my commitments. I have enjoyed every minute of my time here and feel so honored that I was able to share this experience with all of you. I especially want to thank the Scrapping The Music Design Team - their creative talent, and dedication to this site has been totally inspiring and I love each and every one of these wonderful women!!! And don't worry!!! SCRAPPING THE MUSIC WILL GO ON!!! The design team is committed to this site and is working behind the scenes with new ideas. I'm sure an announcement will be coming soon, so stay tuned for that!!!

Our daughter has not wanted to let go of us since our adoption almost years ago. She started school this past Jan, but I had to stay with her for 2 and a half months until she was okay to be there without me. Since the 5 mos, she has so much more confidence. My name is Karen Williams and I am a 37 year old mother of three who has been
scrapbooking since the birth of my daughter almost four years ago.

Originally from the UK, I am currently living in the Netherlands, hence my new
found SAHM status, (In the UK I was a teacher). I like simple scrapping, half
an hour is my average time on a LO, and with three children in the house you
can understand why. I set myself the challenge of making 365 LOs last year, I
stopped count in November when I got to 370! I plan the same for this year
too. (I am already over 300).

I love chocolate, pizza boxes from the postman, day trips to Amsterdam, shoes,
crime novels, knitting, CSI on TV, baking, taking photographs, Strictly Come
Dancing/Dancing with the Stars, scrapbooking of course, and the spring,
I hate talking about myself, bananas, dentists, taking my children for jabs,
making phone-calls, having my hair cut, bananas, that I still bite my
nails, snow and my oven. (the oven is a long story) (yes bananas is in there
twice- I really hate bananas - another long story)

My favourite paper crafting supply is paper- It's the product I buy most of- I
love to use it to make my own embellishments- and I love LOs that allow the
paper plenty of space to show off! I am completely obsessed with polka dot
papers at the moment.

We usually like to include the song with actual movie clips from the video, but that wasn't available for embedding this time, so we went with the next best thing - a live version of this beautiful song! It's called " I can't react" and really there are hundreds of photos I could have
used for my intended purpose- It's always dangerous to start laughing when the
children have got up to something naughty so it's best not to " react" I chose a picture of Nancy when she had painted her own face with poster paints but i could have chosen the picture of Arthur plastered in my make up, or the wall after Stanley had drawn on it, or the floor covered in nail varnish after Nancy tried to put it on herself or - well you get the picture!

Hi! I’m Anne and I work FT in the Human Services field. I’m married with a blended family of 6 girls (23 to 16) and 1 puppy. When I’m not having a panic attack about it, I am so honored to be a guest designer at STM. I started scrapping 7 or 8 years ago with Creative Memories stickers. I’ve been involved with blogs and challenges for a little over a year – STM was the very first blog challenge I played along with. I am now totally addicted to sketches and design team reveals. Left to my own devices all my pages start looking the same! I don’t know that I have a style – eclectic I guess. I try to match a style to the person’s album that I am working on; or if it’s for me it depends on the emotion of the page/event. For example, the page I created for the current challenge/DD-2’s album is a totally different look than a similar page I made for DD-1’s album. Different colors and different looks to suit different tastes and personalities.

I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out!!! My beloved Los Tiburones have made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs every year since I started watching ice hockey, but they never manage to make it all the way through to the final round and win the cup! It takes a little luck, but it definitely takes speed, skill, grace & mayhem!!! LOL!!! How fitting that “Five for Fighting” refers to the 5 minute penalty a player gets for participating in an altercation… They’re droppin’ the gloves!!!

Once again, I have to apologize for missing a layout.

Herma sent her "New Shoes" layout in to me on February 6th and it got lost in my inbox; so I want to share it with you now. Isn't it awesome?

My Inspiration: Since my focus recently has been to scrap our trip to Spain last summer, and we definitely experienced a lot of "sweet sunshine" in our two weeks, I was immediately drawn to that line. This photo captures the brilliance of the water perfectly and I wanted to draw on that in my layout.

Today (January 15th) is Civil Rights Activist Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday. We bring you a special song in honor of this advocate of peace and unity! The song is "Stand By Me," and it's a special version done by a group called "Playing For Change." Take a look at the video and we hope you will agree that it's an inspiring version of a classic song. We had a great time scrapping with it and hope you will too! My inspiration were the lyrics. I know the song from the movie "Stand by me" which I love, so it´s a little bit different to this version. But I had to think of the stary night at the beach immediately when reading the lyrics.

We just got home from our vacation in San Francisco, CA. I felt a little sad after we got home, because Katie is going to college next year, and we may never have the chance to take a vacation like this again. This song inspired me to use some of the photos from our trip with the hope that Katie and Anne will always stand by each other!

"When I thought about the song it made me think about my son's 1st day of kindergarten this year. Even though he was excited and ready... he still needed us to stand by him and hold his hand until it was time to go down the hallway with his teacher. He did so well, no tears, wanted to go back and still loves it!"

Our First Challenge of 2011...

Happy New Year everyone!!! We are so excited to be with you again in 2011 and are looking forward to a lot of fun and exciting changes this year!

We've got our first challenge of 2011 to share with you, but first I want to introduce you to our guest designer for January and February...

Kelli Phillips (aka Rhayne)!

Kelli has been a dedicated participant in the STM challenges (you might know her as "Rhayne"), and is a member of our STM hall of fame! Here's what she has to say...

Hi! My name is Kelli. I am a crafter and gamer and if I had to choose one over the other, I just might die!

I have loved getting crafty for as long as I can remember and completed my first scrapbook in 1993 when I lived in Germany for a 6-month exchange program. Things have changed a lot since then, always fluctuating and flowing. I started scrapping for me, to capture my life story and for awhile forgot that's what it's all about. I am now again to the point where I scrap what I like and I don't worry about what others think. This is my story and I'll tell it how I like!

I've also been a gamer for as long as I can remember. My family plays a lot of cards (among others, I was playing euchre and spitzer as soon as I could add), a fair few board games (the type called "euro-games" which require the use of a brain and aren't based purely on luck), console games (from Atari to PS3) and computer games (currently WoW and LoL). I love that they both stimulate my mind in different ways.

I love the constant inspiration STM gives me and am entirely delighted I was invited to be a guest designer. Can't wait to see what 2011 brings for us all :o)

We are continuing our movie theme weeks, but for 2011 they will be every other month. We start out 2011 with the theme from the movie "Wonder Boys," which is a funky number called "Things Have Changed" by none other than Bob Dylan! We think it's a groovy song with tons of inspiring possibilities and we hope you do too!

We want to remind you that you are welcome to do any kind of artwork that you the music inspires you to do. A scrapbook layout is great, and so is an art journal page, a mixed media project, or anything else you like!

Another new change for this year is that the design team will sometimes be adding a few words about the inspiration behind their projects, so be on the lookout for that too!

Happy New Year's Eve everyone! I'm so excited today to introduce you to our new design team members - Sharon, Bina and Linda! All three are members of the Scrapping The Music Hall of Fame, and have been dedicated participants in our past challenges! We are thrilled to have these talented women joining our team full time! Please welcome:

SHARON FRITCHMAN

Hi everyone! My name is Sharon. I am a registered nurse by day and an avid scrapbooker by night. I have 2 beautiful daughters, Katie, who is 16 (and driving - yikes), and Anne, who is 7. My fantastic hubby and I have been married for 20 years . . . when did that happen? I have always loved art and even got A’s in art class in high school. Yes, I was one of those nerds!! Ha-Ha! I became interested in scrapping after my husband and I adopted our second daughter from China. Once I learned about lifebooks, my creative side opened up for the first time in a long time. Slowly but surely, I started making more and more pages, and now I am totally addicted to anything and everything that has to do with paper crafting. You should see my home - there are so many albums and projects here. Believe it or not, I do not have a blog, but you can see my work at scrapbook.com under my username, "Fritchey." I really want to thank Michelle for asking me to be on the team. I can’t wait to get started . . .

Well I´m over 40, I´m a mother of four awesome boys. In my real life I´m a doctor and manage a pratice now for three doctors. My scrapping life started three years ago with a card. I´m totally addicted since then. I´m also a member of a kit design team in Germany. We live in the southern part of Germany. I´m really looking forward to joining the team.

LINDA PHINNEY (AKA PHIN)

Hi! (clears throat self-consciously…) My friends call me phin. I'm also known by my (not so) secret superhero monikker, DeathGrrlRunningGoddess!

If we met on the street, I’d probably start talking your ear off immediately! (blah, blah, blah! LOL!) I’ll tease you, A LOT, if we’re buddies. I’m very direct, but I won’t say anything if I don’t think it’ll make an improvement or a difference… Well, unless you ask and then…(See blah, blah, blah above!) I have a lot of energy and have a hard time sitting still. I get distracted easily… SQUIRREL!!! hee!!! I’m a crazy perfectionist and get on my own case way too often.

I love: Laughing, sunshine, Starbucks soy chai lattes, words, physical effort (and sweat!), running, spin class, eating, music and movement, artistic process, the family of my heart (my friends), reading, stalking blogs, browsing the internet, black nail polish, taking pictures, off-color humor (heh!), my car ZooMZooM (aka Pieter), and my pet Betta, Mike (named after Mike Ness of Social Distortion!)

I’ve been playing with paint, glue, and paper, making messes for as long as I can remember… My first ‘scrapbook’ as we currently know it, was completed in 1994 when there really wasn’t much in the way of scraping fun and you could only find ugly background paper and flat stickers, hahaha! Now I’m more into collage/mixed media, creating my own supplies & embellishments, and upcycling products I'd recycle, like catalogs and cardboard. I really like grunge, gesso, texture and layering. I also enjoy making and trading ATCs, ‘cause of the small space to work in and the quickness of completion.

I'm very happy to be invited to be on the team and SO happy to meet YOU!

WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE SOME CHANGES THAT ARE COMING UP AT SCRAPPING THE MUSIC!

We have been listening to your feedback, and also talking amongst ourselves about new ways to make Scrapping The Music fresh and fun for you in the coming year, and we've come up with a plan that we are excited about! Here is an overview of some of the changes coming your way...

Schedule:
We are going to a format of two challenges per month. These challenges will be posted on the 1st and the 15th of every month. The challenge posted on the 1st will be due on the 13th, and the challenge posted on the 15th will be due on the 28th. We have had many requests for more time to complete the challenges and we know how busy everyone is. We hope this change will enable more of you to play along with us!!!

Picking Winners:
The design team will continue to vote for a winner with each challenge, and the winner will have their layout displayed in the Scrapping The Music Hall of Fame, just as we have been doing. Our goal is to also have a monthly sponsor who will provide a prize. If you submit a layout for one of our challenges, your name will go in the hat and the prize will be awarded at the end of the month by random draw. If you submit to both challenges your name will go in the hat twice that month!

Sponsors:
We are currently looking for monthly sponsors for our challenges. What a sponsor can expect is that they will have their prize and blinkie and/or link displayed for an entire month in our sidebar, along with a permanent link as a past sponsor once the month is done. Sponsoring Scrapping The Music is a great way to get exposure for your business and support our effort at the same time! SQUIRREL!!! hee!!!

I’m a crazy perfectionist and get on my own case way too often.

I love:

Laughing, sunshine, Starbucks soy chai lattes, words, physical effort (and sweat!), running, spin class, eating,

music and movement, artistic process, the family of my heart (my friends), reading, stalking blogs,

browsing the internet, black nail polish, taking pictures, off-color humor (heh!), my car ZooMZooM (aka Pieter),

and my pet Betta, Mike (named after Mike Ness of Social Distortion!)

I’ve been playing with paint, glue, and paper, making messes for as long as I can remember…

My first ‘scrapbook’ as we currently know it, was completed in 1994

when there really wasn’t much in the way of scraping fun and

you could only find ugly background paper and flat stickers, hahaha!

Now I’m more into collage/mixed media, creating my own supplies & embellishments,

and upcycling products I'd recycle, like catalogs and cardboard.

I really like grunge, gesso, texture and layering. I also enjoy making and trading ATCs,

‘cause of the small space to work in and the quickness of completion.

I'm very happy to be invited to be a guest designer this month and SO happy to meet YOU!
